I am going to go in a totally different direction in this blog review and I have decided to review a Live Covers Band. From now on, i am not going to restrict this blog to just Christian Bands and my hope for this review is that it will reach a broader audience. Different people have different musical tastes so we really need to overcome our stereotypical attitudes towards music.
Sound Effects came to peform a gig at London Calling in Rugby, Warwickshire on Friday 19th September at night time and they performed some Britpop and Ska songs and it was absolutely brilliant. They performed songs by Oasis, The Cure, The Jam, Blur, Franz Ferdinand, Pulp, The Specials, The Enemy, The Housemartins, Small Faces, The Strokes, The Fratellis and James.
When I was a child, I was brought up on Paul Weller, The Jam, Blur, Oasis, Madness, The Specials and some others as well. I am also well into Ocean Colour Scene, The Lightning Seeds, Cast, Dodgy, Kaiser Chiefs, The Coral, Inspiral Carpets and The Farm since i'm a big fan of Britpop Music. My interest in Britpop and Ska music has been downloaded into my musical DNA for quite a long time and i believe it will still continue.
The very reason i went to the Britpop and Ska gig at London Calling is because i am a very close friend to Simon Buckingham who is a Christian and is part of the Youth For Christ outreach.
Simon Buckingham is the guitarist from Sound Effects and he is a Paul Weller fan and he is very influenced by Mod and Ska music.
My hope and prayer is that the other band members will get to know Jesus Christ as personal saviour and I am also hoping to see pubs and clubs across Britain redeemed and taken back for God.
I pray that God will rear up some new talented Bands that will redeem the Britpop scene and create some new and amazing songs that will advance God's kingdom and bring more people to the kingdom of God.
